PRP- therapy #1

PRP- therapy

In the modern world, it is typical to have children later in life, than it was before. Women choose education and career and postpone giving birth. Also, finding the right partner takes time. Meanwhile, ovaries are losing their ability to produce healthy oocytes and their quality is getting worse with time. This means fewer chances to have a child. Moreover, some women have premature ovarian failure, and they need a solution to this diagnosis.

Having own biological child

Such issues as older age for giving birth, diagnoses that do not allow to have children naturally, made scientists looking for a method to help those women. There are women with early menopause, late age, bad egg quality, low ovarian reserve, premature ovarian failure. Now all of them have the chance to have their own children thanks to new techniques.

Ovarian rejuvenation with PRP injections

To help those women who want to have their own biological child, but struggling with issues, we use a technique called platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection. This technique is not totally new and was used for a long time in various areas of medicine. The injections are able to activate growth factors in the tissue. In fact, stem cells replace the patient’s own cells and grow into new totally healthy cells. They are able to turn into oocytes too, in such a way restoring a possibility to give birth.

How is ovarian rejuvenation performed?

First of all, we ask a patient to have a consultation with a fertility specialist. We ask questions and collect background that allows us to determine if the patient would be qualified for the procedure. Also, we do some analyses, including blood tests and ultrasound. After this, we are ready to start the whole process.

The procedure starts with the preparation of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). For this, we will draw patient’s blood, which will be processed in the laboratory. This will help us to extract PRP. The whole process takes few hours. You will not have to wait long: the procedure will be scheduled just after PRP is ready. The PRP would be injected by the doctor using a needle and under anesthesia.

There is a difference in the conduction of the procedure for females who have periods and for females who don’t. In the first case, it is better to conduct the procedure at the beginning of the cycle (first ten days). In the second case, we can do it at any convenient time.

The patient doesn’t have to worry about the allergic reaction or infections, as we use her own blood. This means that the procedure is totally safe.

Who are prospective patients for the procedure?

  • Females having premature ovarian failure.
  • Menopausal or perimenopausal females younger than 50 y.o.
  • Infertile females, of 35 years and more, with low egg reserve and low AMH levels.

What are the signs that ovarian rejuvenation procedure was a success? We would monitor the patient to make sure that everything goes according to plan. Among the important indicators that we use here are FSH, LH, estradiol, AMH levels. Ultrasound evaluation would help us to control the follicle growth.

The first signs that procedure was effective are the decrease of FSH and LH levels, increase in estradiol and AMH. This is a positive tendency that allows us to make a conclusion that procedure was a success. Usually it takes a couple of months to see those changes. It is also important to note that some time is needed for the tissue transformation. In such a way, it takes from three to six months to be completed. Also, we consider the individual situation of a patient.

When we confirm the beginning of follicle growth, it is time for fertility medications. They will provide additional chances of mature healthy oocytes retrieval.

The main advantage of it is the possibility of giving birth to women who were not able to do it due to various reasons, including age and health conditions. This can be achieved without donor’s oocytes.
